Christmas extended into January for the auto industry at
Detroit’s 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). And Chevy was at
the front and center of the action, delivering gift upon gift to its audience.
Here are some of the best Chevy highlights from the NAIAS.
The 2018 Chevy
Traverse

Chevrolet put their upcoming 2018 Traverse on full display
at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, and it left every SUV owner in awe.
The eight-passenger crossover has undergone an extensive
redesign for 2018. At first glance, the Chevy
Traverse looks longer, and that’s because it is; engineers added seven
inches to increase passenger and cargo room. With 98.6 cubic feet of trunk
space, the ’18 Traverse is now set to be the class leader in that department. It’s
also lost a significant amount of weight (nearly 400 pounds).
2017 Chevy Bolt Named
North American Car of the Year
Under the hood will be a 3.5L V6 that makes 305
horsepower—about 10% more than last year—and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine
is estimated to deliver approximately 25 mpg on the highway and be able to tow
up to 5,000 pounds. A turbo 2.0L four-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower
will also be available. Both engines will be married to a standard nine-speed
automatic transmission.
A new Traction Mode Select knob will enable drivers to
adjust the way their Traverse drives based on road and weather conditions. AWD
models of the Traverse can utilize this system to disconnect from the rear
axle, decreasing fuel consumption.
The 2018 Chevy Traverse will also include some noteworthy cabin features, including a
hands-free liftgate, 4g LTE Wi-Fi, USB ports throughout the cabin, and Apple
CarPlay and Android Auto integration. New innovative driver-assist features are
also available, including forward
collision alerts, auto braking, lane keeping assist, and front pedestrian
braking assistance.
Pricing wasn’t available at the NAIAS, but the 2018 Chevy
Traverse should closely mirror last year’s MSRP. Expect to see the Traverse hit
our Clearwater Chevrolet dealership
in the fall.
The 2018 Chevy Equinox

Not to be denied its attention, the 2018 Chevy Equinox also
took center stage at the NAIAS.
Having shed a significant amount of weight, Chevy’s popular
compact SUV is looking better than ever and readying for its return later this
spring. Unlike the Traverse, this five-seater lost some length –4.7 inches—but
it’s still longer than most rivals in its class.
A turbocharged 1.5L engine that makes 170 hp will fit into
most Equinox trims, while a 2.0L that
makes 252 hp will also be available. The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox can also be purchased with a 1.6L diesel engine that produces 136 horsepower; it’s the first Chevy
SUV to be offered with a diesel
powertrain.
Onboard the Chevy
Equinox are a series of new features, such as optional eight-inch
touchscreens, 4G Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and several safety
systems like blind spot alerts and low-speed autonomous braking.
2017 Chevy Bolt Named
North American Car of the Year
Chevy is proud to announce that its 2017 Bolt has achieved
the pinnacle of success by earning this year’s prestigious North American Car
of the Year Award. Receiving 364 votes, the Bolt beat out competitors like
Hyundai’s Genesis to secure its win. With a driving range of 238 miles (on a
single charge) and a price tag that drops to under $30k after tax credits, the
2017 Bolt was the frontrunner to win the award going into Detroit.
LEGO Batmobile

In partnership with Warner Bros., the production company
whose LEGO Batman film is about to
release, Chevy unveiled this remarkable “toy” car during the last week of the
NAIAS. Nicknamed “The Speedwagon,” this Batmobile is made out of nearly 350,000
LEGO pieces. It’s a shame it won’t be available for purchase from our
Clearwater Chevrolet dealership, however.
