The 2018 Chevy Silverado is a Critical Darling

Offering a generous range of configurations in the 2018 Silverado—including three cabs, beds, and engines, as well as about a gazillion optional features across eight trim levels—is there really any surprise why this Chevy truck model is GM’s best-selling vehicle? Here’s what to expect when you come test the new Silverado at our Clearwater Chevrolet dealership.

What’s New?
For 2018, Chevy bolstered the Silverado’s appeal by including a few new standard and optional additions:
  •          Rearview camera
  •          Seven-inch touchscreen display
  •          Mild-hybrid eAssist package with engine start-stop (LT and LTZ trims)
  •          TPMS with Tire Fill Alert
  •          Cajun Red Metallic and Havana Metallic exterior colors
  •          Commemorative Centennial Edition (2018 models only)

U.S. News Ranked the Silverado near the Top

As far as full-size trucks go, the Silverado makes waves, landing near the top of the “best in segment” list at U.S. News. Critics there cite the Silverado’s powerful towing capacity (12,500 lbs.) and load-handling ability (2,250 lbs.)—both of which are among best in the segment—as major selling points.
But what the experts at U.S. News find on the inside of this new Chevy truck counts most of all:

“The Silverado gets a leg up on some competitors by offering Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. These features are becoming more common in many makes and models, but they’re still not universally available.”

The addition of a user-friendly infotainment system, Teen Driver, and upscale materials in the cabin make the Silverado as luxurious a truck as there is on the road.
Rarely do you get both Beauty and Beast in one tidy package.

A Versatile Truck with Few Cons

Edmunds’ own Cameron Rogers can’t find much fault in the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, either, writing that “Chevy's bread and butter does most things well and should command a high spot on your shopping list of potential pickups.”

Need a workaholic truck that meets your workaholic needs down to the last speck of gravel? The Silverado’s upgraded 6.2L V8 is an impressive display of power, even by Chevy’s standards, churning out a beastly 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Frequently delivering goods from Clearwater to, say, St. Pete or Tampa Bay? The range-topping High Country model will keep you comfy with its plush and split-heated ventilated seats.

Like all the latest gizmos, even when you don’t really need them? Yeah, we do too. With the 2018 Silverado, not only do you get the Apple CarPlay-Android Auto mix, but you’ll also have USB ports, a 110V plug-in, the aforementioned 4G LTE wireless hotspot, and an attractive and configurable instrument panel to mess around with. On the outside, you can opt for the easy-effort tailgate and power side steps, too.

For those of you who just like a basic truck with enough bells and whistles to get most around-the-house tasks completed, the new Silverado delivers. Offering a bevy of handy small-item pockets, a deep center storage console, and—count ‘em—a dozen cupholders, its cabin is certainly worth the price of admission. Rear seats fold up easily, allowing you to access the flat storage compartment.
The Silverado High Country can be upgraded with bed dividers and side storage boxes, too.

Affordable Brilliance in Truck Form

Though it’s averagely priced—it sits comparably between rivals in the truck segment—there is nothing average about the 2018 Silverado. With its conservatively handsome looks, a flurry of high-end features, and enough utility and power to make short work of any job, the new Chevrolet Silverado is cooler than the other side of the pillow. To quote Car and Driver reviewers, “after 100 years of building pickups, Chevy’s formula is nearly perfect.”

This year, Corvette engineers faced the incredible challenge of making the outstanding 2017 Corvette even better, following up on the previous Vette’s owner satisfaction rating of “excellent.”
